PRESS RELEASE
Edible Exhibition ‘SUGARAMA’ Opens at Vyner Street Gallery
Cake artist Connie Viney unveils sugar house exhibition, 3rd – 9th September 2012

Outlandish cake artist Connie Viney is inviting the public to experience sugar on a grand scale with the launch of SUGARAMA – an edible sugar house installation incorporating sound, movement and lighting effects which opens at London’s Vyner Street Gallery on 3rd September 2012.

The exhibition takes a look at Western society’s obsession with sugar, examining the rise in popularity of candy stores, boutique cake shops, as well as the recent 'cupcake culture' that has taken the nation by storm.

With the creation of her biggest installation to date, Connie asks if this is all harmless fun, or a depressing sign of the times. Is this new inclination towards the sweet and fanciful symptomatic of our 'quick fix society', where instant gratification rules the day? Or is there a new art form coming to the surface? A ‘people’s art’ that incorporates creativity, generosity, community and homebaking.
The exhibition promises to be an experience for the senses with sound, movement and lighting effects adding to the sensory overload of sugar on a grand scale.
Connie says ‘the work aims to evoke a reaction. I’m interested to see whether people are fascinated, intrigued or repulsed by this sensory overload’.

SUGARAMA will open at the Vyner Street Gallery from 3rd to 9th September and admission is free.
